Kylie Minogue has been awarded the OBE by Queen Elizabeth II.
The OBE, an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, was given to the pop star to honor her achievements in music.Outside of America, Kylie Minogue is one of the most recognizable faces in the world and certainly one of the biggest pop stars, despite only ever having had two hits in the USA.
Kylie started her career as a child in the Australian TV show Skyways but the big one came when she played Charlene Mitchell in Neighbours. The Melbourne made show made her a household name in the UK.
In 1987, Kylie started her music career with a cover of the Carole King penned Little Eva hit 'The Locomotion'. It was one of only two hits she had in America, the other being 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head', which came more than a decade later.
Kylie has had 42 hit singles in the UK.
She made her big screen debut in the 1989 movie 'The Delinquents' starring opposite the equally young at the time Charlie Schlatter.
The 90s became a series of reinventions for Kylie, starting with her highly publicized romance with INXS singer Michael Hutchence. While Hutchence turned Kylie's childlike image to that of an adult overnight, her music career also took a bolstering of credibility when she recorded 'Where The Wild Roses Grown' with Nick Cave.
However, the sunny career clouded over in 2005 when Kylie was diagnosed with cancer just days before she was due to start her Australian tour. After treatment and rest, the tour finally went ahead 18 months later after Kylie was given a clean bill of health.
Kylie will receive her OBE personally from the Queen at Buckingham Palace at a date to be scheduled during 2008.
