Digital sales are accounting for more sales than CDs for 9 out the 10 titles in this week's Top 10. This begs the question, will the instore become the next victim of the digital revolution?
The younger music fans have definitely abandoned the CD single as their preferred means of purchase, for everyone it seems except Idols.Natalie Gauci's 'Here I Am' is the only song in the Top 10 to sell more in the last week as a CD instead of a download. Natalie has been peddling hard to generate sales and doing the old instore it seems has thrown her a life-line.
'Here I Am' sold 3,953 units last week. 1,109 of them were digital. I guess it's too hard to get a MP3 autographed.
Timbaland's 'Apologize' was generating big bandwidth usage with downloads last week. The song sold 9,626 downloads and a total of 15,759 CD and download units combined.
At No. 2, The Veronica's 'Untouched' did 5,328 downloads to 7,854 combined sales. Alicia Keys 'No One' at No. 3 sold 4,147 downloads to 6,589 combined sales.
