One of the more interesting stocking fillers for this Christmas is Jeff Jenkins' book '50 Years of Rock in Australia'.
The 340 page book documents half a century of Australian music taking us through the early days with Johnny O'Keefe, through to the international superstars like AC/DC, Kylie Minogue and INXS and the local music stars like Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes. The book is presented by music guru Ian 'Molly' Meldrum who opens by saying "when my good friend Brian Mannix sang "Where will we be in 50 years?", he wasn't thinking about the Australian music business. But it's interesting to listen to the song as we reflect on the industry's first 50 years ... This book is a celebration of all these people. It's been 50 incredible years, the soundtrack of our lives".
'50 Years of Rock In Australia' recreates the times by the moments. There are the bands that refused to appear on Countdown, Great Australian Songs, Australia's Rock Timeline and the One-Hit Wonders.
Jeff Jenkins is the writer of the MCM show 'My Generation'. He has authored 6 books including 'Ego Is Not A Dirty Word, The Skyhooks Story'.
Jeff is also heard on Melbourne radio on Brian Wise's Triple R program 'Off The Record' and the ABC's 'Overnights' program.
Still under the age of 50, Jeff's ambition is to one day venture beyond the Victorian border and find out for himself if the world really is flat or round. He has heard rumours that the latter could be true.
