Guy Sebastian's 'The Memphis Album' has been hovering above the high-flying Eagles in one state ... his home state of South Australia.
'The Memphis Album' sold 2019 units in South Australia, making it the number one album for the state again this week.By comparison, Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' sold 1587 units in South Australia and Timbaland's 'Shock Value' sold 1,244 units.
Last week was equally good for Sebastian, with 'The Memphis Album' topping the South Australian chart ahead of the Eagles at number 2 and Justin Timberlake at number 3.
Adelaide raised, Malaysian born Guy Sebastian has turned his career around after abandoning his Idol past to produce an adventurous album in Memphis with the backbone of the Blues Brothers and Booker T & The MG's, Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn.
When Undercover interviewed Cropper and Dunn earlier this year in Austin, Texas, the music legends talked about how they were willing to work with anyone to keep their sounds relevant to a new audience. That next "anyone" just happened to by Guy Sebastian.
Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn have been fixtures of the American soul movement since the 60s.
Working in-house at Stax Records, the pair were originally members of The Mar-Keys and then became founding members with Booker T. in The MG's.
Cropper was the writer of many of soul musics now classic hits. He co-wrote 'Knock On Wood' with Eddie Floyd, 'In The Midnight Hour' with Wilson Pickett and '(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay' with Otis Redding.
In the late 70's, the legends were recruited by actors John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd to form The Blues Brothers. The movie is now a cult classic.
In August this year, Guy Sebastian went to Memphis, TN to work with the legends. The result, 'The Memphis Album' has added a whole new dimension to Sebastian's career, and has taken him away from his Idol past.
