Joe Jackson will return in 2008 with 'Rain', his first studio album in 5 years.
Jackson's last time on record was when he reunited most of his original band for the 'Volume 4' album. The title was a reference to the number of albums the band had made together over 25 years.'Rain' could be considered Volume 5. It features Jackson on vocals and keyboards, with original Joe Jackson Band members Graham Maby (bass/vocals) and Dave Houghton (drums/vocals).
About his time away from the studio, Jackson said in a statement "I wasn't in a hurry to make a new album. I promised myself that I wouldn't make a record until I had an album's worth of songs that were the best I could do. I think several of these songs are the best songs I've ever written, and I wanted to have 10 or 12 songs that I felt that way about before I put out another album. I used to be a bit of a workaholic, but I am now much more patient. The quantity has gone down, but the quality has gone up."
'Rain' will be released internationally on Rykodisc on January 28, 2008.
