Nineties rock outfit Supernova is suing the producers of 'Rock Star: Supernova' over copyright infringement.
The CBS/Mark Burnett-produced program sees aspiring vocalists vie for the honour of fronting a group to be called Supernova, featuring Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke. The original Supernova formed in 1989 in Costa Mesa, California, most famously contributing the track 'Chewbacca' to the soundtrack for the Kevin Smith cult classic 'Clerks'.Lawyers representing the group filed an injunction last Friday at the US District Court in San Diego. The group had filed a lawsuit in June, however negotiations had since collapsed.
The group's lawyer told Hollywood Reporter, "We tried to settle the matter quickly and fairly, but after lengthy negotiations with CBS, Mark Burnett Prods. and others, they left us with no options but to seek the preliminary injunction."
