A New York politician has called on the state to tear up the $US84 million pension fund for the Universal Music Company and its parent company Vivendi in response to the title of Nas' proposed new album.
The rapper intends on titled his new album 'Nigger', in what he describes as test of racial boundaries. But Brooklyn assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries wasn't buying it, telling Rolling Stone, "[Universal are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries"It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word."
Nas recently attempted to justify the decision, telling MTV, "I wanna make the word easy on muthafuckas' ears. You see how white boys ain't mad at 'cracker' 'cause it don't have the same [sting] as 'nigger'? I want 'nigger' to have less meaning [than] 'cracker.'"
