Roger Daltrey, lead singer for The Who, has announced that the band will tour Australia in 2008.
The 63 year old singer told Reuters "We just finished 13 months of touring all over the States and Europe, and are probably due to go back to Japan and Australia next year. So we'll see what happens there."The Who last played Australia for the first time in 36 years in 2004.
Pete Townshend refused for decades to return to Australia after an incident on a flight between Adelaide and Melbourne.
The Ansett flight was carrying The Who, The Small Faces and Manfred Mann. The pilot asked security to remove the 19 member entourage in Melbourne because they were using "very bad language" on the flight.
John Gorton, the Prime Minister of Australia at the time of their 60s tour, sent the guitarist a telegram telling him he was not welcome in the country and that he was never to set foot in Australia again.
Townshend sent a terse telegram back and for the next three and a half decades, did not return to Australia.
The 2004 tour made up for the years of absence. The Who proved why they are one of the greatest live bands ever.
No dates have been scheduled for the '08 tour as yet.
