Vocoder-on-legs T-Pain works on his writing, producing and his new label, Nappy Boy.
Just when you thought this perennial guest was falling out of favour, T-Pain has spoken to Billboard about his new, digital-only label, Oakley-branded sunglasses and why he doesn't dig touring.Attached to Atlantic, Nappy Boy is developing artists like Tay Dizm, Girlfriend and T-Pain's original rap crew Nappy Headz. They plan to launch digitally in January. Manager Michael Blumstein says, "The label will be a full-fledged indie label with PR, promo and everything else a physical label has, but will never go physical. You'll never see any albums in retail stores."
T-Pain has also produced four tracks on Usher's forthcoming album, and will appear on songs with Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson and Rick Ross.
While he's almost certainly touring with Kanye West next February and March, and will venture out on his own after his next album (a year away), T-Pain is no fan of hitting the road. He said, "It's too demanding. You got tour rules. You can't be you and they stop you from doing stuff and you can't do what you want to do onstage."
