T.I. is facing 20 years in jail, and remains in custody in Atlanta, after being charged with serious firearms offences.
The nervous-looking rapper appeared in court briefly on Monday, with Judge Alan Baverman explaining, "Federal law requires that I keep you in custody pending the holding of a detention hearing". The hearing is scheduled for Friday.Born Clifford Harris, the Grammy winner is being accused of attempting to procure a range of machine guns and silencers. As a convicted felon (he did time for drug offences several years ago), he's not allowed to own a firearm.
Government agents displayed the weaponry outside the courtroom. They included an AK-47 and two AR-15s.
"Machine guns and silencers pose serious dangers to our community. The last place (they) ... should be is in the hands of a convicted felon," said U.S. Attorney David Nahmias.
