Trent Reznor, mastermind behind Nine Inch Nails, leaves his label for independence.
Suggesting that he'll continue his musical career in the same vein as Radiohead, Reznor announced that he has left Interscope following a long period of enmity. He previously encouraged fans to download or steal his latest album 'Year Zero' and even leaked tracks prior to release. In a statement, Reznor announced that after 18 years under the industry thumb, "as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label." He continued that he has "watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate."
One can only assume the "direct relationship with the audience" will see future Nine Inch Nails/ Reznor releases be sold to his legion of fans without industry interference, much like the web-based Radiohead release of 'In Rainbows'.
