The city of Manchester is considering renaming a street to honour the late Tony Wilson.
Whitworth Street West, the street that housed the legendary Hacienda nightclub, could possibly be renamed Tony Wilson Way or Wilson Street West.Tony Wilson was the UK television presenter who went on to start Factory Records and give the world Joy Division, Happy Mondays and New Order.
With the members of New Order, he started the Hacienda nightclub in Manchester, which is central to the movie '24 Hour Party People'.
The label and the nightclub were both business disasters. Wilson was a music man, not a businessman and died without ever capitalising on his ideas.
However, his work put Manchester and the music of the city on the world map.
Wilson died of cancer in August. He was 57 years old.
