CD sales for 2006 Australian Idol winner Damien Leith have come to a crawl.
The "platinum" selling record 'Where We Land' has run out of pace almost 30,000 units short of the trophy value. After 6 weeks, it is sitting at 40,899 units sold.Platinum in Australia is awarded for sales of 70,000 units but in true Idol fashion, a little premature platinum injection is good for perception.
'Where We Land' sold reasonably for the first two weeks (12,760 and 13,064 units respectively) but sales halved in the third week.
This week, 'Where We Land' landed at number 29 with sales of 1,769.
The first week sales of 'Where We Land' were less than 2005 winner Kate DeAraugo 'A Place I've Never Been', who before Leith scored the first week lowest selling debut of an Idol with sales of 15,600.
The 2007 series of Australian Idol has been a ratings disaster with Channel 7 comedy 'Kath & Kim' slaughtering the karaoke show by more than 1.5 million viewers every week.
