Jimmy Little has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music at the 2007 Deadly Awards.
The ceremony took place at the Sydney Opera House last night, and celebrated Indigenous achievement in a number of fields.2006 'Australian Idol' runner-up Jessica Mauboy was named Artist Of The Year, whilst part-time rapper Anthony Mundine was named Male Sportsperson Of The Year for his boxing exploits.
Mauboy, who will replace Ricki-Lee Coulter as one-quarter of the Young Divas, told the audience, "I see the youth having difficulties knowing what they want to do and I really want to be a role model."
The 18-year-old beat country star Tror Cassar-Daley to the top prize, though he did collect the award for the Most Performed Indigenous Song On Radio, Television and Live for 'Going Back Home'.
Band Of The Year were Queensland six-piece Black Image, whilst Kev Carmody was a deserving winner of the Album Of The Year Prize for 'Cannot Buy My Soul'.
Dubbo-based singer-songwriter Shaz Lane was declared Most Promising New Talent In Music, whilst young Melbournian musician Dan Sultan won Single Of The Year for 'Your Love Is Like A Song'.
