John-Michael 'Hollywood' Howson, the Australian entertainment reporter turned writer, has written the stage-play 'Shout' to tell the story of the life of Johnny O'Keefe.
O'Keefe was Australia's first rock and roll legend. Known as The Wild One, O'Keefe released over 50 singles and 100 albums during his 20 year career.Between 1959 and 1974, O'Keefe was Australia's most successful music star, producing something like 29 top 40 hits in that time.
Although he had pockets of success in the USA, it wasn't until Iggy Pop recorded his song 'Wild One' as 'Real Wild Child' that O'Keefe graced the Billboard charts.
John-Michael Howson was behind the stage show 'Dusty', the critically acclaimed story of Dusty Springfield.
'Shout: The Legend of the Wild One' will debut at the Arts Centre in Melbourne in January 2008.
The stage show will star Tim Campbell as J O'K, Colleen Hewitt as his mother, Glenn Shorrock as his father, Mark Holden as his manger Lee Gordon and John Paul Young in a variety of roles.
