Melbourne's dusty poetic waltzers Augie March strike many a chord in the US.
Following the 2006 breakthrough album 'Moo, You Bloody Choir' in Australia, picking up the AMP Award and the J Award and single 'One Crowded Hour' scoring APRA's Song Of The Year award and topping Triple J's Hottest 100, Augie March have been enchanting the US for most of 2007.'Moo, You Bloody Choir' was released in the US through major juggernaut Jive Zomba on August 7. They played May showcase performances in Los Angeles and New York. Into September Augie March have been pulling crowds across the country (even planning shows into Canada) following an avalanche of praise from US media.
'Entertainment Weekly' gave the album a straight A. The Clear Channel behemoth, Spin and LA Times all dubbed them a "hot" band to watch. Billboard gushed about their "folk-influenced rock that is rich with imaginative lyricism". The Onion's AV Club says they take "a sophisticated approach to 'big music'." Paste chose it as Album of The Week.
This, coupled with scintillating performances on NPR, World Caf?? Radio, CBS' The Late Late Show and on Pitchfork, means that the future of Augie March Stateside is very bright indeed.
