Iceland's mysterious orchestral rockers Sigur Ros announce a live DVD and double EP and cancel their Melbourne score.
The cult heroes are set to release 'Heima' through XL on November 6. The DVD - which translates to "Homeland" - is a virtual companion piece to their recently released book 'In A Frozen Sea: A Year With Sigur Ros' that documented the final leg of their 2006 tour in support of the 'Takk' album.'Heima' promises to cover a wide array of live performances in eclectic locales, including a show they performed inside a herring oil tank in Iceland's West Fjords. It features alternate renditions of their songs, including acoustic versions and a single mic recording of 'Vaka'.
They also have a double EP planned of rare new and old tracks, as well as live performances of some of their previously recorded material. Dubbed 'Hvarf/Heim', which translate to "disappear" and "home" respectively, the double EP will be released to coincide with the DVD.
The collective will appear at the Melbourne International Arts Festival on October 27 to perform their half of the score for 'Split Sides' live. The other half of the score for this Merce Cunningham Dance Company piece was written by Radiohead, who will not be performing their part live. Unfortunately due to a scheduling conflict Sigur Ros will not be able to appear at the proposed October 26 performance. Frontman Jonsi Birgisson will also present the visual arts exhibition 'Riceboy Sleeps' for the duration of the Festival.
