After five months of testimony, the last witnesses have spoken at the murder trial of producer Phil Spector.
And in a dramatic twist, Spector's head lawyer Bruce Cutler withdrew from the case, citing an irreconcilable difference of opinion with regard to approaching final arguments. When asked his reasons for firing the flamboyant attorney, Spector noted, "I didn't think it was in my best interest ... I didn't think he had the full credibility with the jury."
The final witnesses were provided by Spector's new lead lawyer Roger Rosen. They were Clarkson's friends Elizabeth "Punkin Pie" Laughlin and Jennifer Hayes-Riedl, who testified that the late actress had become depressed after allegedly being ignored by film director Michael Bay at a party.
Bay had previously testified that he didn't remember seeing Clarkson.
Spector's defence contends that Clarkson's death was a suicide, linked to her battle with depression.
Final arguments begin next Wednesday 5 September.
