Dr Dre is suing the defunct Death Row Records label over rights to his seminal 1992 album 'The Chronic'.
Dre is concerned that a court-appointed bankruptcy administrator will sell the rights to his multi-million selling album, and has launched the legal action in a bid to prevent this from happening. In 1996, Dre handed over 50% of the album rights to Death Row, in exchange for future royalties. He now alleges that the label have reneged on the agreement, and that Death Row have failed to pay the royalties as outlined in the contract.
Whilst demanding that full copyright be returned to him, Dre claims in the suit that Death Row and their bankruptcy administrator have recently been trying to sell the copyright to the album. He also says he is owed restitution from money made via the copyright.
