Classic album artwork featured on the Van Halen site has been restored to the original images after an embarrassing discovery.
The album covers for 'Van Halen 1' and 'Women and Children First' were tampered with to remove departed bass player Michael Anthony and include child prodigy Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie. After the unceremonious dumping of Anthony from the band, Eddie Van halen replaced the veteran bass player with his teenage son.
Just that is being barely tolerated by the fans but going one step further and changing history was just too much for many fans to accept.
Van Halen kicked fellow founding member Anthony out of the band in 2006. That didn't surprise fans. Van Halen is notorious in true spinal tap vain for rearranging the deck.
In 1985, they fired singer David Lee Roth and replaced him with Sammy Hagar. Hagar was sacked but not told about it in 1996. He read about Roth rejoining the band before he was told he was out. Roth last a year and was once again sacked. In came Gary Cherone from Extreme. That lasted one album and tour before ending in tears for Cherone. Hagar came back for a tour a few years ago but that ended in disaster and he left again. Then Anthony was removed last year.
Fans accept this crap from Van Halen, but re-writing history was going too far.
Van Halen relented on August 15 and returned the original artwork to the site.
The Van Halen tour with Roth and the Van Halen 3 starts in September.
