The 2007 Australian and New Zealand Urban Music Awards have been dished out.
New Zealand urban music is a chart powerhouse and the list of Australian artists are getting more successful and diverse with each year, but the 2007 UMAs were barely different from last years.Even the list of performers was more varied than those who picked up the gongs. Everyone from pop soul singer Samantha Jade to hip hop stalwart DJ Peril to last year's Best New Talent Figgkidd put on a show at the ceremony in Sydney.
Guy Sebastian picked up Best R&B album to complement last year's two awards. Hilltop Hoods scored Best Hip Hop Album and their second award for Best Hip Hop Group. Last year Savage nabbed three awards, virtually replaced this year by Phrase who nabbed Best Video Clip and Hip Hop Single. Jade MacRae nabbed her second Best Female Artist award. New Zealand uber-producer P Money won his third award in two years. Nino Brown won back to back Best Australian DJ Awards.
Newcomers included Kid Confucius for Best R&B Group, 2006 multi-nominee Israel scored Best R&B Single, and Best New Talent went to Justice & Kaos. All the winners can be found at www.urbanmusicawards.com.au.
