At least three bands get 'Crazy' at Lollapalooza 2006.
Maybe the odds were in favour of crossovers, with 130 bands across eight stages during this year's Lollapalooza festival, but reports from the first two days of the festival in Chicago show that many bands went cover crazy. An NME review revealed that Arizona country rockers Calexico paid tribute to the late Arthur Lee with a cover of the Love track 'Alone Again Or'. Gnarls Barkley (dressed in tennis whites) covered 'There Is An End' by The Greenhornes, mainly because The Raconteurs (which feature Jack White with Greenhornes members) covered 'Crazy' on the first night.
In fact, punters would've heard 'Crazy' three times during the first two days, with headliner Kanye West also having a crack at it on the second day. According to a Spin review, West also covered The Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' and had a string ensemble to play the Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony'.
We await reviews on the final day, which promises sets from Sparta, The Frames, The Hold Steady, Ben Kweller, Hot Chip, Matisyahu, The Shins, She Wants Revenge, Queens Of The Stone Age, Wilco, Broken Social Scene, and a headlining slot from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
