Two hundred troops in the Kiss Army protested against the band's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame omission.
Massing on the Hall Of Fame Museum in Ohio (rather than where the shortlist and inductees are decided in New York), Associated Press reports that the group demonstrated for half an hour, waving placards and wearing the classic Kiss make-up. Some protesters reportedly came from as far away as California. The protest has been ten months in the making. In November last year, when the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame announced it's 2006 inductees, Kiss fans responded by promising a full scale protest on August 5 and set up the website kissarmyunites.com.
Kiss became eligible for the Hall of Fame in 1999, 25 years after their self-titled debut album. According to the Hall Of Fame, criteria for induction include "the influence and significance of the artist's contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll". While they may not have developed much, Kiss have certainly perpetuated rock n' roll for over thirty years.
AP reported that, according to a museum spokesman, this was the first demonstration by fans seeking to have a group inducted.
