Today, Thursday August 16, marks 30 years since the King, Elvis Presley, died of a heart attack at his Memphis home.
To celebrate, Elvis week has been going on all this week and will continue until Sunday where fans from all over the world will celebrate the life of one of the most successful and influential musicians in history.Today at midday, George Klein, a friend of Elvis' will host a memorial service at the University of Memphis, with speakers including friends and family of Elvis and "celebrity guests".
There will be two concerts featuring the living members of Elvis' amazing TCB band (his band from 1969 until his death in 1977).
Presley recorded his first record at Memphis' Sun Studios and with the help of Sun owner Sam Phillips, he fast became a star.
Now, 30 years on, he has become more of an icon than a star, although his songs live on in the lives of kids today.
Presley enjoyed a sudden boost in popularity amongst younger fans when Dutch producer Junkie XL (who had to abbreviate his name to JXL for the privilege) remixed the song 'A Little Less Conversation'.
Elvis popularised what until then was a niche genre of music, known in America as "race" music, which was mainly performed and listened by African Americans.
Once he had conquered rock 'n' roll he began to dominate gospel and R&B as well, earning respect from all kinds of music fans.
His home, Graceland, is now open to the public in Memphis, TN.
