Germany's Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos will open the PopKomm music conference in Berlin.
Mr Glos has been tapped by PopKomm to deliver the opening speech from 1pm on September 19th.Germany has become a world leader in technology developments and PopKomm's conference will unveil many of the countries new technologies for the world.
The country has been active in funding Theseus, a $167 million project which is being developed to compete against Google. "New forms of acquiring, searching for and evaluating Internet-based information have are of strategic importance for the German government," Economics Minister Michael Glos said in a statement. "With Theseus we want to improve Germany and Europe's ability to compete and reach a top position in IT and communications technology."
Mr. Glos has also been pro-active funding the development of hydrogen powered vehicles for Germany. He recently became the first BMW Hydrogen 7 driver.
Michael Glos will front PopKomm to talk about the benefits of the music industry in economics. "Creative industries have long become an economic factor of unmistakable importance", was his comment when accepted the invitation to open the show. "At 2.6 per cent, they already make up a large part of the gross domestic product, not far behind our automotive industry with its long history of achievement, and ahead of the chemical industry and energy sector. Germany's creative potential needs strengthening and as an economic factor must at all costs be taken seriously. This is where the music industry trade fair Popkomm can make a big contribution."
The principle of PopKomm 2007 is that "pop is communication, politics and economics".
PopKomm 2007 will take place in Berlin from September 19-21.
