Mick Jagger is about to release his first ever best of compilation.
'The Best of Mick Jagger' will gather up songs from the four Jagger solo albums as well as soundtrack songs and three previously unreleased songs.Songs from the album date back to Jagger's first solo performance for the 1970 movie 'Performance'. He recorded the song 'Memo From Turner' for the soundtrack with Ry Cooder.
Also included is the Jagger duet with reggae star Peter Tosh. '"You Gotta Walk And) Don't Look Back" was originally recorded by Tosh on Rolling Stones Records. The other famous Jagger duet, 'Dancing In The Street' with David Bowie is also included.
Ten of the songs come from the four solo albums 'She's The Boss' (1985), 'Primitive Cool' (1987), 'Wandering Spirit' (1993) and 'Goddess In The Doorway' (2001).
One of the unreleased tracks is 'Too Many Cooks', produced by John Lennon in 1973. He song features Cream's Jack Bruce on bass, Jim Keltner on drums and Harry Nilsson on backing vocals.
The other two previously unreleased songs are 'Charmed Life' and 'Checkin' Up On My Baby'. 'Charmed Life' was recorded for 'Wandering Spirit'. The track features Jagger's daughter Karis on backing vocals. 'Checkin' Up On My Baby' was recorded with LA blues band The Red Devils.
"The difficult decision I was faced with when listening to the tracks I recorded with The Red Devils, and having to choose only one, reminded me what a great band they were," says Jagger. One of the results of that session is Jagger's previously unreleased rollicking version of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Checkin' Up On My Baby."
