New Order have not broken up, contrary to previous reports, however bassist and founding member Peter Hook will no longer continue with the band.
In May, Peter "Hooky" Hook announced on his MySpace site that the band had split and he was glad to have the "awful secret" out in the open, however drummer Stephen Morris and front man Bernard Sumner have vowed to soldier on.New Order released a statement saying "After 30 years in a band together we are very disappointed that Hooky has decided to go to the press and announce unilaterally that New Order have split up," the ysaid. "We would have hoped that he could have approached us personally first. He does not speak for all the band, therefore we can only assume he no longer wants to be a part of New Order."
Both Sumner and Morris, together with Hook were members of Joy Division. They formed New Order after the suicide of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis in 1980.
