Neon Gold Coast youth Operator Please take their hyperactive bubblegum punk to the UK.
It's a revelation for these opportunist teenagers. They've been pedaling their kooky brand of supercharged fiddlin' folk since 2005. They were formed by singer Amandah Wilkinson to perform in their school's battle of the bands. They won. First prize was a box of doughnuts. Coincidentally, it's that candy-coloured sugar-high sound that's taken them away from studies and around the country.Operator Please hooked thousands in 2006 with their 'Crash Tragic' and 'Get What You Want' singles, tapping into that cutesy punk (with tinges of bluegrass courtesy of Taylor Henderson's hoedown violin) of The Grates. Their new ADHD single 'Just A Song About Ping Pong', due out on July 28, has not only been added to Australian radio but also London's BBC Radio 1 and XFM.
The video, filmed during a recent trip to the UK, has also been added to stations across Europe. Operator Please have also been added to the legendary Reading and Leeds festivals in August. And to top it off, sleazy tabloid blogger Perez Hilton recently named them his "favourite new band".
Not bad for five banana-bending schoolkids.
