Roots folk minstrels The Waifs have announced their new album 'Sun Dirt Water'.
It's been almost four years since the trio launched their fourth official album 'Up All Night'. It was an astounding success, hitting top 5 in Australia, selling double-platinum and scoring them four ARIA Awards. The band took a much-needed hiatus after releasing their 'Bridal Train' EP and a double live album in 2004. Guitarist and vocalist Vikki Simpson gave birth that year and in late 2006 won first prize at the USA Songwriting Competition in the folk section and overall for 'Bridal Train'. Sister Donna Simpson also became a mother and guitarist Josh Cunningham spent time performing with Missy Higgins.
The members didn't reconvene in the studio until early 2007, when they went to Nashville to record the songs that evolved over the preceding two years. Then they tested some new songs while supporting Keith Urban through the country in May.
The title-track single will be released on August 4 (featuring two new b-sides) and 'Sun Dirt Water' the album hits stores on September 1. Following a selection of intimate showcase performances in July, The Waifs will tour the nation in September and October.
