It's not a good day for effeminate pop tours, with Kelly Clarkson and Boy George both announcing the cancellation of their upcoming tours, in the US and UK respectively.
Former 'American Idol' Clarkson was forced to shelve her summer dates due to poor ticket sales. It's been a turbulent week for Clarkson, in which she also fired her long-term manager Jeff Kwatinetz.Writing on her dotcom, Clarkson explained, "In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won't be coming out to tour this summer ... The fact is that touring is just too much, too soon."
Michael Rapino, CEO of touring company LiveNation, was less equivocal, saying, "Ticket sales have not been what we anticipated and we came to the realisation that we had bit off more than we could chew."
Meanwhile, Boy George has cancelled his entire October UK tour. A statement on his website read, "It is with regret that Boy George's October live dates will be cancelled until further notice. This is due to various other 'last minute' commitments which unfortunately now clash with the UK dates."
Ticket refunds for both tours are available at the point of purchase.
