Kylie Minogue is the first woman honoured with an award from the UK's Music Industry Trust.
The BRIT Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, philanthropic organisations in the UK dedicated to supporting young musical talent, have honoured Minogue as an "icon and national treasure" with its Music Industry Trust's Award. Previous winners include Sir Elton John and Peter Gabriel.The committee responsible for choosing the award noted that the ex-pat Australian "has a unique place in this country's heart and an appeal that seems to grow ever wide." Chairman Dave Munns continued, "Kylie deserves this award for her success over 20 years, staying at the top in one of the toughest professions and inspiring millions with her grace, dignity and humanity."
Minogue said the recognition was "an incredible honour" and noted the organisation's philanthropic efforts. "As well as being a fantastic evening, this award ceremony also raises much needed funds for The Brit Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, and it is a pleasure for me to be involved," she said.
The ceremony will take place in London on October 29.
