Serial award winners Augie March have claimed yet another prize, with their breakthrough hit 'One Crowded Hour' taking out main honours at the APRA awards in Melbourne last night.
The Australian Performing Rights Association bestowed the Song Of The Year prize on the Melbourne quintet for the tune, written by frontman Glenn Richards. Richards also won the award for Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year.Augie March's third album, 'Moo, You Bloody Choir', released in March 2006, represented the band's popular breakthrough after the gushing critical successes of the 2000 debut 'Sunset Studies' and 2002's 'Strange Bird' follow-up. Last year's release was declared album of the year in both the J Awards and the Australian Music Prize.
In other APRA award categories, Wolfmother were collectively declared Songwriter Of The Year, whilst Bernard Fanning's 'Songbird' won the prize for Most Performed Blues and Roots Work.
The Most Performed Urban Work was Butterfingers' 'Get Up Outta The Dirt', Most Performed Jazz Work was awarded to Mark Sholtez for 'Love Me For The Cool', and Kasey Chambers took the Most Performed Country Work prize for 'Nothing At All'.
