Chicago emo rock wunderkinds The Academy Is... bring synth pop cohorts Cobra Starship to Australia.
The Academy Is... certainly capture the emotional bombast of the new wave of pop bands with a penchant for black fringes and lip-piercing but they marry it to the kind of uplifting, almost evangelical power pop of acts like the Foo Fighters. Less sooking and more rocking. And they bring songs from their new album 'Santi' to Australia for the first time in August. They'll also bring well-connected New York novelty act Cobra Starship. If that name is ringing a faint bell, it's due to the band writing the theme for another post-modern cultural by-product - the 'Snakes On A Plane' film. Run by Gabe Saportas of Midtown, Cobra Starship eschews that heartrending pop rock for kooky synths and a whirlwind of pop-culture references.
