Forthcoming documentary 'About A Son' features previously unheard interviews with Kurt Cobain.
Less a straight documentary and more of a reflection on Cobain's youth, 'About A Son' revolves around audio interviews conducted by music journalist Michael Azerrad. The interviews were originally commissioned for his book 'Come As You Are: The Story Of Nirvana' and now snippets from the 25 hours of tape have been paired with footage by filmmaker AJ Schnack.Schnack has matched the intimate interviews with dreamlike footage of the three Washington state cities that dominated Cobain's life; Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle. Contributing the original score to the film is Death Cab For Cuties' Ben Gibbard, in concert with Nirvana producer Steve Fisk. It is accompanied by music that influenced Cobain, artists like Queen, Bad Brains, The Melvins, Mudhoney and David Bowie.
'About A Son' has already been officially selected for International Film Festivals in Toronto and Rome and at the International Documentary Film Festival. It will launch in Rome on October 18 and in Los Angeles on November 4. The soundtrack will be released on September 11 via Barsuk Records.
