Sad news for music fans, Canberra's Green Room and Melbourne's Palace are set to close.
Thrice-voted best Canberra live venue, Green Room, have announced that they will stop functioning for live shows on August 4. Over the last four and a half years The Green Room has seen over 1500 bands, including Australian acts like Dallas Crane, The Church, Youth Group, and Sarah Blasko as well as overseas acts like the Von Bondies and Dillinger Escape Plan. The final show will feature local faves Spoil, Tonk and The Variodrivers.Legendary Melbourne venue The Palace has also announced that it will close on June 12 due to the revamping of the so-called "St.Kilda triangle". After a three-year legal challenge, the Port Phillip Council finally approved the redevelopment, which promises nightclubs, cafes and shops.
The Palace has been in action for two decades, hosting club nights and huge local and international acts from Nirvana and The Ramones to Hoodoo Gurus and Arctic Monkeys.
All previously planned Palace shows have been relocated. The sold-out Shins show for August 7 has now been relocated to The Metro and they have added a second show for August 8.
