Barbra Streisand has cancelled her scheduled June 15 concert in Rome, which was to have been the first show of her extravagant European tour.
Promoters flatly denied that the cancellation stemmed from last week's outcry over what Italian consumer groups described as Streisand's "absurd" and "shameful" ticket prices. Instead, they cited 'production difficulties' as the reason behind the cancellation.Streisand is taking a 58-piece orchestra on the tour, which will now kick off in Vienna on June 21. The Rome show was to have taken place at the city's Stadio Flaminio, a issue which also raised the ire of the Italians, indignant at the fact that the 150-900 euro ($200-$1200) ticket prices were for a show at a public venue.
A spokeswoman said that future dates are being revised and new dates will be added to the tour.
