Chinese authorities will allow Christina Aguilera to perform a concert in Shanghai in June.
The Chinese cultural guardians are notorious for disallowing performers they believe exhibit sexual permissiveness. The Rolling Stones were asked to remove suggestive lyrics during their recent performance, whilst rapper Jay Z had a 2006 concert cancelled by Beijing. But Aguilera, whose sexually charged image has been toned down in recent years, has obtained approval from the government for her show on June 26. If it hasn't happened already, Aguilera will have to give a detailed run-down of the lyrics she will sing, and the costumes she will wear. The Chinese government may then ask that problematic lyrics and costumes be altered.
Sources told the Reuters news agency, "not every foreign artist has the luck to win Beijing's approval and Christina's sexy performance was once a concern when applying to the regulators". They added that "the Shanghai date would be the only concert in mainland China," with tickets costing between 200 yuan and 2000 yuan ($US26 - $US260).
