The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is up to their crazy shenanigans again, suing 108 Rhode Island music fans for breaching piracy laws, the Boston Herald reports.
The filed three suits in Providence, R.I. last week. The industry has sued thousands of people for downloading copyrighted material over the past five years, including an 83 year old woman... three months after she died.
The lawsuits have been loaded with controversy. Many people believe the suits target music's biggest fans and many artists support the sharing and downloading of music, arguing that it is the record companies getting rich off music and not them.
Even Metallica, who were very public in their support for lawsuits like these have recently caved and put their music on iTunes, an online store where customers can legally purchase mp3s.
