New Order bassist Peter Hook has claimed that the band have split for good.
Hook revealed to Xfm Manchester DJ Clint Boon last Friday that he was no longer working with Bernard Sumner. When Boon made the point that the band are notorious for splitting up and getting back together, Hook admitted, "Bernard went off for a break with Electronic [his side-project band with Johnny Marr] but that was different. But it's like the boy who cried wolf this time."And on Wednesday, in a grammatically challenged post on his internet space, Hook added "i suppose it was the interview with clint boon that started it all off ... i went on and lo and behold mentioned the N>O> split so i suppose because it was me sayin it it was out at last. im relieved really hated carryin on as normal with an awful secret so lets move on shall we?"
New Order fan forums are reaching the consensus that we've heard the last of Manchester outfit. Posts on www.neworderonline.com read, "Not exactly news anymore but I still find it horrible to read,"; "Well, I guess that's it then. Not that he can't recant at some point, but oh well. Fully expected."; and "Very very sad. It does feel very final this time. And the horrible thing about it is that there was obviously some agreement that nothing would be said ("terrible secret") which, inadvertently, seems to have come out on a national radio show!".
