Country rabblerousers the Dixie Chicks announce an October Australian tour.
Last time those mouthy country gals toured the world, it was in 2003 amidst controversy regarding Natalie Maines' comments about her shame that George W Bush comes from their home state of Texas. The Top Of The World tour of that year, in support of 2002's 'Home', was a cherry on the multi-platinum, multi-Grammy Award winning cake for the trio, despite the controversy.Three years later, on the back of their latest album 'Taking the Long Way', the Dixie Chicks' are on the road again and have made good on their promise to return to Australia, where they have sold over 700,000 albums and where this latest one hit number 2 on the ARIA charts.
'Taking The Long Way' has been roundly applauded by critics for its mix of country twang, Californian vibes and deeply personal and political lyricism. The debut single, 'Not Ready To Make Nice,' had trouble securing airplay in the South of the US because of its defiant political stance.
After wowing 60,000 people on their last tour, the Dixie Chicks will play the following shows:
Friday 6 October - Brisbane Entertainment Centre
Monday 9 October - Sydney, Acer Arena (formally Superdome)
Friday 13 October - Perth Burwood Dome
Sunday 15 October - Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Tuesday 17 October - Melbourne Rod Laver Arena
