With their much-anticipated second album almost upon us, Arctic Monkeys have revealed the record was partly inspired by an unlikely set of influences.
The fashion sense of MC Hammer, who was last seen preaching across middle America, played a part in the creative process for 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', with bassist Nick O'Malley explaining, "If you're gonna try and create a good atmosphere, why not wear some MC Hammer parachute trousers? Comfort first of course, with a bonus aesthetic ... it's a guilty pleasure of ours."Frontman Alex Turner also explained, "We listened to all sorts. Ricky Martin, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - 'Pure imagination' ... that's a tune, listened to that a few times.
"And James (Ford) the producer would be playing things as well. And all things that we listened to last year like your ESG and stuff like that just for like, drums, and you'd be like: 'Fancy doing something a bit like this sound?'"
'Favourite Worst Nightmare' is released on Monday.
