Texican band Los Lonely Boys has recorded a cover of John Lennon's 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' for the forthcoming 'Instant Karma: The Campaign To Save Darfur' project.
On June 12th, Warner Brothers will release the album to raise funds for the catastrophe in Darfur, Sudan. The album will feature covers of John Lennon songs from U2, REM, Christina Aguilera and Green Day.The project is being produced with the support of Amnesty International and Yoko Ono.
"Our hearts go out to the victims in Darfur," says Los Lonely Boys' singer-guitarist Henry Garza. "Our family has also known tragedy, and we know how sacred life can be. We care. We are proud to give support to people in need. We are grateful that Amnesty International is making this possible. We want to thank Yoko Ono for allowing us to embrace John Lennon's song. John continues to influence us today in many ways."
Lennon's original version of 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' was his only US number one solo single. The song, released in 1975, featured Elton John on backing vocals.
Lennon shortly after performed the song live with Elton at Madison Square Garden. It was the last time John ever played to an audience before being gunned down in 1980.
