Fire engulfed the final stages of Bee Gee Barry Gibb's renovations on Johnny Cash's old home.
Gibb had bought the Tennessee home of Johnny Cash as a holiday house in 2006. The wooden lakeside house was where Cash and wife June Carter lived from 1968 until they both passed on within months of each other in 2003. The house featured in the video clip to Cash's version of Nine Inch Nails 'Hurt'.Barry Gibb planned to use the house as a getaway from hurricane season in his hometown of Miami in Florida, noting that the atmosphere would provide inspiration for writing a country album and planned to "bring it back to its original pristine condition."
Unfortunately, Reuters reports that today, during the final stages of the restoration, the house caught fire. Although they had not determined the cause of the blaze, builders were working at the home at the time. Associated Press reported that a recently applied flammable wood preservative accelerated the fire.
Neighbour Richard Sterban, of the Oak Ridge Boys, told AP, "Maybe it's the good Lord's way to make sure that it was only Johnny's house."
