Flea was back on home turf last night (Sunday April 8, 2007) when Red Hot Chili Peppers returned to the city in which he grew up, Melbourne, Australia.
Melbourne must still feel like the hometown gig for Flea. For starters, there are no shortage of people with the surname Balzary in the audience. The Chili Peppers setlist is fairly stable with a few slight replacements each night but the stock standard opener of 'Can't Stop', 'Dani California' and 'Scar' Tissue' won over the crowd immediately.
Earlier in the day, drummer Chad Smith broke away from the band and performed a free solo show in the city at Federation Square.
The one-ff performance was a 30 minute solo interpretation of Mozart.
The Australian shows are the Chili Peppers first since in Australia since 2000.
