Sydney pop-disco-rock scenesters The Cops return with their second album 'Drop It In Their Laps'.
On their first EP of 2004, The Cops set themselves up as Sydney's latest greatest hype band and their debut later that year 'Stomp On Tripwires' kept the buzz humming. The album was gushed over for their appreciation of feverish pop, rock and new wave beats, liberally doused with glossy hooks. After scamming shows with the trendiest of international outfits - Blondie, The Dirtbombs, The Black Keys, The Distillers and more - three out of the five members jumped ship in 2005. Soon enough, vocalist/guitarist Simon Carter and bassist Rebecca Darwon enlisted a new band to continue.
The new line-up's '80 In The Shade' EP was released last year, the flagrant Icehouse rip-off of single 'Call Me Anytime' scoring number 33 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of that year. Now the band release their second full length, 'Drop It In Their Laps'. Promising a revisiting of cold new wave like Roxy Music and The Style Council, let it not be said that The Cops can't ride a zeitgeist.
Look for the '80s Nagel font and samurai sword on the cover when Inertia Recordings release the album on April 28.
