A Doors fanclub is petitioning Florida's new Governor to clear Jim Morrison's criminal record.
There are no fans as one-eyed and obsequious as Jim Morrison fans. And according to the World Entertainment News Network, Doors superfan Dave Diamond has challenged Florida's new Governor Charlie Crist to clear Morrison of his 1969 charges of indecent exposure and public profanity. There has been much speculation over the incident at Miami's Dinner Key Auditorium where Morrison was arrested by the Dade County police. Although there was much public outrage at the time, the myth of the rebel Lizard King would be much diminished without the incident. Regardless, Diamond, posting on Doors' fanpage Doors Collectors Magazine, wants Crist to re-examine the "ridiculous charges".
Diamond writes, "No matter what happened at that concert or how you feel about the man himself, the prosecution and agencies involved in this matter denied James Douglas Morrison his constitutional rights."
Morrison's constitutional rights notwithstanding (I'm unsure if the founding fathers slipped in a clause proclaiming that rock stars are allowed get their wangs out and swear on stage), hopefully Crist will treat this absurd request with the disrespect it deserves.
