Just prior to Elton John's 60th birthday celebrations, he announces the digital release of his entire catalogue.
John has announced that more than thirty of his albums, in their entirety, will be available to download from iTunes from March 26. John released some of his back catalogue for digital download but this move will make more than 400 songs available. He said in a statement, "I knew that the entire catalogue - not just the hits - needed care and attention to be released in this way." The move coincides with the digital and physical release of 'Rocket Man - The Definitive Hits', an 18-track compilation of his best. He will also release some hits as ringtones.
The release comes two days after the UK star celebrated his 60th birthday at a party held in New York's Cathedral of Saint John The Divine. The New York Daily News reports that revellers included Michael Stipe, Rod Stewart, Donatella Versace, Bette Midler, James Blunt and Pierce Brosnan.
He is celebrating publicly with a huge show at Madison Square Garden. In a happy coincidence it is his sixtieth appearance there. He plans to play songs from his entire 39-year musical career during the sold out show.
