Goodtime hip hop collective Jurassic 5 announce that the good times are over.
After 15 years spreading sunshiney beats and granola flows, Los Angeles hip hop group Jurassic 5 announce that they're breaking up, right after they do a quick whip around Australia and Japan. Rapper Soup (aka Zaakir) has announced that it's just not fun anymore.Soup is quoted as saying, "After the tour, that's basically it. I don't want to sit here and fake around with it - we're not seeing eye to eye right now. People see us a harmonising, loving group, but that's far from the truth."
He apparently credits the break-up not only to acrimony within the group but the urge of one (unnamed) member to go solo. He said, "Some people here want their own shrine, their own thing. If that's what you want, I say more power to you. I hope it works out for you - just don't come up with lame excuses."
We can only hope it's the caramel bass vocals of rapper Chali 2na, since we'd certainly miss that voice. And since he's currently touring with Dan The Automator, it might be a hint that he's behind the bust up.
