Singer/songwriter Dan Kelly has parted ways (for some time, at least) with his band, The Alpha Males.
Speculation mounted after guitarist Dan Luscombe joined heavy-touring act The Drones, and has now been confirmed by Kelly in a statement. He writes, "Myself and the fabulous Alpha Males will be parting ways for a good while. I'm going to do a solo album next and head overseas and they're all off doing other groovy and happening youthquake explosion stuff for the rest of the year. We will probably play together again (think of them as Crazy Horse without the record sales), but not for a good stretch. There is no drama, we all still love each other. It's actually quite sickening."
The split comes after the critical and popular success of their latest effort, 'Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth'. The album, released last year, cemented the group's position at the forefront of independent music in Australia, and featured heavily in a raft of year-end music polls.
The band will play a farewell show at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on April 12.
