Hermitude wins the 8th Australian Music Prize for their fourth studio album 'HyperParadise'.
They received thirty thousand big ones thanks to sponsor PPCA!
Hermitude emerged from a list of nine short listed artists, not to mention a field of more than 300 artist albums of 2012, to claim the prestigious prize.
Hermitude took to twitter saying - @HermitudeMusic - Holy crap we won the Australian Music Prize!!!
Hermitude have already collected an AIR award, two SMAC awards, an ARIA nomination and a Triple J ‘J Award’ nomination. Their Villain Tour last month saw loads of sellout gigs everywhere they played; demand in Sydney and Melbourne was so great that they had to put on three shows in each city.
Featuring the great single ‘Speak of the Devil’, ‘HyperParadise’ is a chocked full of party-inducing electro beats tinged with squeaky beeps and whoops. Flume’s remix of track ‘HyperParadise’ is a real treat on the ‘Parallel Paradise EP’! The Coopers Amp title further solidifies the integrity of the Blue Mountains duo, who’ve come along way and proves their latest one album that goes far beyond the hype.
“This prize celebrates great Australian music and in particular originality – Hermitude is certainly original, distinctive and very deserving of The Coopers AMP,” Founder and Prize Director Scott Murphy said.
The other artists were:
Flume (Flume)
Tame Impala (Lonerism)
The Presets (Pacifica)Grand
Salvo (Slay Me In My Sleep)
Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors (My Little River)
Liz Stringer (Warm In The Darkness)
Daily Meds (Happy Daze)
Urthboy (Smokey’s Haunt)
Here's the lucky lads with the massive cheque! Who has a cheque book that size really?
